Peter S. Haas; Retired CEO of Kaiser Cement

Peter S. Haas, 71, the former Kaiser Cement Corp. chief executive who was one of dozens of corporate leaders targeted for death by Charles Manson and his followers. Haas’ career rise and influence at Kaiser made him and other business leaders the subject of threats in 1975 by the Manson clan. They were not carried out, however. Haas, an Iowa native, for 31 years was employed by Kaiser, one of the largest manufacturers of cement in the country. He began as a senior engineer and retired in 1978 as board vice chairman after two years as president and chief executive officer. In Oakland on Tuesday of a heart ailment.
