Bunki Bankaitis-Davis led a three-rider break across the finish line Thursday to win the final women’s race of the U.S. Olympic Road Cycling trials, and that was enough to put her on the Olympic team.

The top two point-getters in the women’s trials, Inga Benedict of Reno and Sally Zack of North Conway, N.H., were automatic qualifiers for the team. The third rider, in this case Bankaitis-Davis, was a coaches’ selection, along with two alternates.

The top five men riders were within four points of one another going into the men’s race, and it was a sprint by a group of 10 riders that nailed down Olympic spots for Scott McKinley of Carmichael, Calif., and Craig Schommer of San Jose.

Selected for the third spot on the men’s team was Bob Mionske of Twin Lakes, Wis.

Alternates for the women’s team are Katrin Tobin of East Palo Alto and Jeanne Golay of Hollywood, Fla. The men’s alternates are Nate Reiss and Gavin O’Grady, both of Boulder, Colo.
