Our endangered times surely demand that erstwhile enemies come together rather than pull apart. Thus, it is imperative for adversaries to be seen as realistically as possible. Hendrix’s story is important because the truth about Palestinians was greatly enhanced, I believe, by Ashrawi’s being allowed to speak for herself. We often hear from the one side only. Now, peace requires that we also hear the Palestinians speak. My experience convinces me that without the usual filters and stereotypes, we may be pleasantly surprised.
