500 Protest Acquittal of 3 Lawmen in Black’s Death

HEMPHILL, Tex. — About 400 people Saturday marched and held a prayer vigil to protest the acquittal of three white lawmen in the beating death of a black man jailed on drunken driving charges.
The lawmen had been charged with violating the civil rights of Loyal Garner Jr., whose death last December sparked charges of racism in this town. However, the three still face murder charges.
