Canada’s Steve Bauer, a silver medalist in the 1984 Olympic Games, easily defeated 119 cyclists to win the Grand Prix of the Americas. Bauer, from Fenwick, Ontario, covered the 12-lap, 124.6-mile distance in 5:12.20, finishing well ahead of runner-up Massimo Ghirotto of Italy and third-place finisher Gilles Delion of France.
