Cubic Corp., a defense contractor and elevator manufacturer, reported a third-quarter profit of $3.8 million on sales of $88.9 million, compared with a profit of $2.6 million on sales of $90.2 million over the same three-month period last year. Backlog of unfilled orders as of June 30 was $358 million, up from $220 million a year previous.

For the nine months ended June 30, Cubic’s year-to-date profit stood at $8.4 million on sales of $269.2 million, compared with a profit of $7.1 million on $267 million for the same three quarters a year ago.
