A West German court in Regensburg ruled that a nuclear power station mothballed for 14 years could be torn down, rejecting a complaint that this would risk dangerous radiation leaks. The Bavarian state government said it would be the first nuclear plant in Europe to be dismantled. The Regensburg court acknowledged that the demolition could release some radiation but ruled that this would not exceed national safety limits. The plant, 50 miles northeast of Munich, was shut down in 1974 after it was judged to be obsolete.
