The State : Lotto Winners Shun Publicity

Share

State lottery officials said the $11.74-million jackpot in the weekend 6/49 Lotto game was won by Lynette S. Mead of Hemet, but Mead and her relatives are shunning the fame accompanying their overnight fortune. Mead, 39, presented her winning ticket to lottery officials in Riverside, but she hid her face from photographers and declined to talk with reporters. Her husband, Richard, 42, who quit his job at a farm-supply company, was not available for comment, although Art Natahn, a co-worker, described him as “an awful nice guy . . . the mild-mannered type.” Mead’s winning ticket was purchased by her mother, Doris S. Houle, at a liquor store in Hemet.
