Reports of Paraguayan children being kidnaped or illegally adopted so they could be sold in the United States for organ transplants are part of a Soviet KGB disinformation campaign to damage America’s image in the Third World, the U.S. Information Agency said. The reports are untrue, “and neither the government, private sector organizations or investigative journalists have been able to uncover any evidence of trafficking in ‘baby parts,’ ” the agency said. USIA officials said the so-called baby parts story was among other anti-American disinformation campaigns being carried by Soviet- and Soviet-influenced media.
