Unisys Corp. said it has agreed in principle to acquire fellow computer maker Convergent Inc. for $7 a share. Unisys would pay for Convergent--which had 1987 revenues of $385 million--with 45% in cash and 55% in Unisys common stock. San Jose-based Convergent develops and manufactures computer systems and also markets computer systems, software, and support services. Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys said the transaction will involve the merger of Convergent and a wholly owned Unisys subsidiary. Convergent has 49.2 million shares of common stock outstanding.
