‘The High Cost of Whiz Kids’

Share

To the sentiments expressed in your editorial, I have a contrary thought. Give the whiz kids complete freedom to explore and discover. With a range of knowledge at hand, society then has to assume the responsibility to set priorities on which ideas to put into production, for good or for evil. Blaming the decisions to go ahead with “Star Wars,” MIRV, Aegis, and the B-1 on the whiz kids is too far-fetched.

If the society chooses to emphasize different priorities and back them with resources for research, the whiz kids will naturally respond. Faced with the mounting technological challenge in the world, America can ill afford to smother her creative talents.
