Berkoff Sets Backstroke Record

AUSTIN, Tex. — David Berkoff of Willow Grove, Pa., set a world record of 54.95 seconds today in the men’s 100-meter backstroke at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials. Berkoff broke the record of 55.00 by Igor Poliansky at the Soviet Union’s Olympic trials on July 16.
