Allison’s Place filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, blaming poor sales and a shortage of cash. President Marvin Schenker said the company--a Los Angeles-based chain of women’s discount apparel stores--will reorganize and is actively pursing a partner or a venture capitalist. Schenker said the 8-year-old firm has closed 82 of its stores in recent months, leaving it with 150 company-owned and 34 franchised stores in 17 states.
