Myricks Wins Long Jump at Budapest

Larry Myricks, who competed the night before at Sestriere, Italy, won the long jump in the Hungalu Grand Prix track and field meet Friday with a leap of 28 feet 3 inches.

Morocco’s Said Aouita won the 800 meters in 1 minute 45.42 seconds, a tuneup for him after a two-week layoff.

Galina Chistyakova of the Soviet Union, the world record-holder in the women’s long jump, had the third best mark in history with a leap of 24-5 1/2. Only her world mark of 24-8 and a 24-6 1/2 by Heike Dreschler of East Germany are better.

Stefka Kostadinova of Bulgaria had the season’s best women’s high jump, 6-8 3/4. Her world record is 6-10, which she set in the World Championships last year.

In the 400 meters, Mohamed Al Malky of Oman scored a surprising victory with a 44.56-second clocking, easily beating Walter McCoy and Clarence Daniel.

Yordanka Donkova of Bulgaria covered the 100-meter hurdles for women in 12.45 to take that event.

Chidi Imoh of Nigeria won the 100 meters in 10.29. Jamaica’s Ray Stewart was second in 10.35.

Mike Conley of the United States took the triple jump with a leap of 56-3 as world champion Khristo Markov of Bulgaria fouled three times.
