I applaud Leo Rangell’s column “Let Them Be Known by Their Deeds and Character, Not by Their Charisma” (Op-Ed Page, Aug. 4).

To express my appreciation of that column, I would quote one short sentence from it:

“Charisma is to be scrutinized, not followed.”
