Local News in Brief : No-Confidence Vote on Claremont Chief
The Claremont Police Officers Assn. has taken a vote of no confidence in Police Chief Dexter Atkinson, who allegedly allowed a man convicted of drunk driving to help with remodeling work at the police station in lieu of serving jail time.
A statement that Atkinson was unfit to run the department, in part because of “unfair treatment of employees” and “poor ethics,” was approved by 24 of 28 union members attending a meeting on the issue. The association represents all of the department’s 34 non-management employees.
Atkinson, who was not available for comment, is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the district attorney’s office.
