U.S. Dubler Team Beats Switzerland

Whitney Reed didn’t lose a game Friday while leading the United States to a 3-0 victory over Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the International Tennis Federation’s Dubler Cup (men 45 and older) at the Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.
In today’s semifinals, the United States will face Italy, the No. 1-seeded team, and West Germany will play Australia. Both matches begin at 9 a.m.
In the Austria Cup (55 and older), Canada defeated the United States and West Germany defeated New Zealand.
In the California Veteran Classic at Los Caballeros Sports Village in Fountain Valley, five Orange County players won semifinal matches.
In the 35-and-older division, Mike Nelson of Orange defeated Tom Lightvoet of Costa Mesa, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. In the 45-and-older division, Herm Allers of Dana Point defeated Klaus Kuhman of West Germany, 6-3,, 2-6, 6-3, and Billy Higgins of Yorba Linda defeated Lenny Lindborg of Laguna Beach, 6-1, 6-1. In the 55-and-older division, Roger Hing of Fountain Valley defeated Gene Powell of Northridge, 6-4, 6-2. In the 65-and-older division, John Jensen of Laguna Beach defeated Ralph Bleak of Los Angeles, 6-0, 7-5.
