Police in Peru raided a printing company in a crackdown on El Diario, a Marxist newspaper that published an interview in July with Peru’s best-known guerrilla leader, the paper’s editor said. Luis Arce told reporters that 40 police officers entered the printing firm Imprenta Pedro Leon in Lima on Friday, arresting owner Pedro Leon and four employees and confiscating 100,000 copies of El Diario. Police confirmed that the raid took place but refused to provide details. The government alleges that El Diario is the voice of the Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path), a Maoist guerrilla group.
