Too Much Knowledge Is . . .

It’s not the excuses people give to avoid jury duty that concern me, it’s whether or not one is “chosen” to sit on a jury while serving (“Jury Duty Excuses: You Be the Judge,” Aug. 7, by David Larsen). Last year, I dutifully served my 10 days on jury duty in Los Angeles. Although picked to possibly sit on a jury, I was never “chosen” by the attorneys to fulfill that privilege because I work with attorneys in my profession and I have acquaintances in the court system and law enforcement. In other words, I know a little more than some about how the system works.

It’s not surprising to me that others in similar situations to mine do whatever they can to avoid jury duty when they suspect they will spend their 10 or so days walking from one court building to another, never having an opportunity to actually be a juror.
