Camarillo’s Alpharel Shows $2.68 Million Loss

Share

Alpharel, a struggling Camarillo maker of computer data-storage devices, posted a $2.68-million loss for the second quarter, compared with a $538,000 loss a year earlier. Alpharel’s revenue tumbled 53% to $776,000 from $1.64 million.

The company has suffered from a big slowdown in orders from the Defense Department, its biggest client, and has been largely unsuccessful in obtaining orders from other customers. Alpharel also has been hobbled by management turnover since December.

For the first half of 1988, Alpharel suffered a $6.31-million loss, compared with a $295,000 loss a year earlier, and its six-month sales skidded to $1.4 million from $5.76 million.
