Drug Problem

Our drug problem and its terrible extent really puzzle me. Either we are among the most self-destructive people on the face of the earth, creating such a stressful society, so bare of human satisfaction and spiritual nourishment that our people resort to drugs (escape) in order to survive, or we are some of the most arrogant creatures that ever graced the planet. Where came this idea that we are invincible? Where came the idea that we are invulnerable to the point we can abuse our bodies, emotions, and minds to this extent and survive? How is it our children are so confused, so misled? How is it that they are so unobservant, so unalert? Where are we on the actual scale of reality?
