Local News in Brief : Water Rates Hike Decision
The Hawthorne City Council will decide Sept. 12 whether to increase the city’s water rates to $1.10 for every 100 cubic feet, from the current rate of $1. The increase would cost an average household $1.50 to $2 a month, according to city Treasurer Howard F. Wohlner.
Residents who comply with the city’s voluntary water conservation program will not experience a increase in cost because their 10% reduced usage will negate the 10% rate increase, he said.
