President Ghulam Ishaq Khan joined hundreds of U.S. citizens at a memorial service on Thursday for Ambassador Arnold L. Raphel, 45, killed with President Zia ul-Haq last week in a mystery plane crash.

A U.S. official said Raphel’s successor, Robert B. Oakley, at least six senior Pakistani military officers, several ambassadors and members of the U.S. Embassy’s Pakistani staff were among the audience at the 50-minute service in the grounds of the mission.
