Tudor Good, but Let’s Not Forget Guerrero

In the Dodgers’ recent glory years of perennial contention for the pennant, between 1974 and 1981, their demeanor reflected the confidence, and even the arrogance, that comes with winning. It wasn’t what the players said, it was just the way they acted.

In 1981, the Dodger glory years faded a little, but they did win division titles in 1983 and ’85 with relatively timid and green players like Greg Brock, Mike Marshall, Steve Sax and Orel Hershiser--and, one confident and arrogant warrior, Pedro Guerrero.

The Dodgers of 1988 have traded Guerrero, but not before importing Kirk Gibson, Jay Howell and Jesse Orosco, players that exhibit a similar confidence, and yes, arrogance.

Dodger fans should not forget that without Guerrero, the only throwback to the glory years of the ‘70s, Chavez Ravine would have been a sad place to be in the ‘80s.
