Defying calls by Yugoslav authorities for an end to ethnic protests, more than 10,000 Serbs and Montenegrins, shouting “We want arms!” staged a rally demanding protection from extremist ethnic Albanians in the troubled southeast Kosovo province. The rally, held in Titov Vrbas, 75 miles from Belgrade, was the latest in a series of protests in which Serbs and Montenegrins have complained of harassment by Albanians. Of the province’s 1.8 million residents, about 1.4 million are Albanians and 350,000 are Serbs and Montenegrins.
