Baldwin Park : Heart Patient in Fair Shape

Share

Monica Fisogni, who received a heart-lung transplant last Saturday, was listed in fair condition Wednesday at UCLA Medical Center, where the operation was performed.

The story of Fisogni and her rare heart and lung disease was described in last Sunday’s San Gabriel Valley edition, which was printed before her 6-hour operation on Saturday.

During the weekend, a heart and pair of lungs became available from a 20-year-old Los Angeles-area man. No other information on the donor was disclosed. Fisogni had been waiting since January for a suitable donor to be found. This was the first time the operation had been done in Southern California.

According to UCLA’s Dr. Hillel Laks, who was chief of the surgical team, Fisogni’s condition during the next three weeks will foretell the success of the operation on the 26-year-old woman, who lives with her husband and two daughters.
