The West Bank’s top army commander chastised Jewish settlers today for being too quick to use their weapons after one U.S.-born settler accidentally wounded two soldiers.

Brig. Gen. Amram Mitzna warned the settlers in a 90-minute closed-door meeting to obey army regulations on the firing of weapons, Israel radio reported. Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin recently gave Israeli soldiers and civilians permission to shoot at firebomb throwers. But Mitzna told the settlers that they could open fire only to extricate themselves from immediate danger.
