Hormel Plans Layoffs

Geo. A. Hormel & Co. said it will lay off 324 employees at its Fremont, Neb., plant--42% of its total workers there. The cutbacks come in the slaughtering, cutting and rendering operations at the plant. A Hormel spokesman said poor profit margins prompted the move.
