Cyclists Respect Law Enforcement

Our organization, the San Fernando Valley Bicycle Club, has a membership of over 800 cycling enthusiasts and a contract with Cal State Northridge to use the campus as a ride-start area on Saturday, Sunday and holiday mornings.
We are appalled by the obvious disregard of the cyclists in question for the rules of the road and of courtesy that should be employed by riders using the same roads as motorists. The Tuesday-Thursday group is not connected to our group, but to the motorist or casual observer, a cyclist is a cyclist.
We take great pains to instruct our membership on the rules of the road at our monthly meetings and in our bimonthly bulletin. We emphasize courtesy, stress safety (including printing the notice that the SFVBC urges the use of hard-shell helmets on all our sanctioned club rides), and we especially urge our members to stop at all stop signs and stop lights.
