Thousands marched in the Serbian city of Crvenka, 125 miles northwest of Belgrade, to protest alleged harassment by ethnic Albanians in the southern Yugoslav province of Kosovo, one of four weekend rallies in the country that drew more than 100,000 people, news reports said. The Crvenka demonstrators shouted “give us weapons, we go to Kosovo” and “army to Kosovo” at the weekend rallies, the reports said. Other rallies were held in the towns of Smederevo, Kovin and Sombor. The demonstrations were aimed at alleged persecution of Serbs and Montenegrins in Kosovo, where Albanians make up 90% of the population.
