More than one-quarter of Britain’s postal workers walked off their jobs as a nationwide mail strike spread and prevented the delivery of 65 million foreign and domestic letters and parcels. Three postal workers were arrested in Liverpool, one of 40 cities where sorting offices were paralyzed by the strikes by 48,000 employees, the national post office, Royal Mail, reported. Royal Mail said the arrest of the three for hurling bottles at temporary workers was the first instance of violence in six days of 24-hour strikes to protest regional pay differences.
