Share

Sixty heavily armed officers stormed Mexico City’s police headquarters to force the release of two colleagues held on charges of robbing about $500, the department’s chief said. Jorge Obrador Capellini, head of the capital’s judicial police, called for the immediate detention and dismissal of the officers who took part in the raid, which he called “reprehensible.” The officers, members of a special unit trained to combat dangerous criminals, carried shotguns and machine guns in the raid. Obrador, vowing to press charges, said the officers will be charged with “jailbreaking, theft . . . using firearms and crimes against judicial authorities.”
