New Tropical Storm Poses No Threat to Land

MIAMI —
Tropical Storm Florence formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, but was no immediate threat to land, forecasters said.
The storm’s 40 m.p.h. winds were expected to strengthen as it swirled in a stationary position, and forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said they could not predict what direction it might take.
