Sikh militants armed with automatic rifles opened fire aboard a commuter train in India’s northern Punjab state, killing 10 Hindus and wounding 15. The attack took place as the train approached a station near Taran Tarn, 25 miles south of Amritsar. Police posted near the station saw a group of Sikhs run from the train into wheat fields but were unable to catch them. More than 1,870 people have been killed this year in violence blamed on Sikh militants fighting for a Sikh homeland. Sikhs say they are discriminated against by Hindus, a majority in India.
