Security Environmental Systems, a Garden Grove company that disposes of infectious waste, said it has won a contract to service Los Angeles County’s hospital system that will generate at least $550,000 in revenue over the next three years. The contract will become effective Nov. 1.

Stephen Grossman, company president, said that under the new contract, the company will pick up specially bundled infectious waste from 66 health-care facilities in Los Angeles County, including the Martin Luther King-Drew, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and County-USC Medical Center. The waste will be sterilized by high-pressure steam at a plant in Vernon and then buried at a landfill in Azusa.

Founded in 1972 as a family firm, Security Environmental Systems in April merged with Jetta Resources Inc., formerly a Vancouver-based, publicly traded company in oil and gas exploration. Security Environmental Systems then went on the Vancouver Stock Exchange.

“Along with recent contracts for infectious waste disposal from the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital and medical facilities in central and northern California, Security Environmental’s infectious waste volume has increased nearly 50% in the past year,” Grossman said.
