16 1/2-Pound Baby Born in Brazil; May Set a Record

RIO DE JANEIRO —
Brazilian doctors have delivered what they believe is the country’s largest baby, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.
The boy weighed 16 1/2 pounds and measured 23 1/2 inches at his birth in Cubatao, near Sao Paulo, on Monday.
Baby and mother, 27-year-old Cleide Maria de Souza, who weighs 264 1/2 pounds, were doing well, the spokeswoman said.
