From the In-Case-You-Didn’t-Know-It Department: Washington is the place to be, and it helps to be male, if you want to make it in TV news. According to a “network correspondent visibility study,” just released by Joe S. Foote of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, the top 10 major network correspondents who led the list in total appearances were men who worked the nation’s capital. CBS’ Rita Braver, who tied for 11th, was network news’ most visible woman last year. Not surprisingly, the top three on the visibility quotient also were the chief correspondents at the White House for the big three networks: CBS’ Bill Plante led with 155 appearances on nightly newscasts, followed by ABC’s Sam Donaldson with 147 and NBC’s Chris Wallace at 120.
