In its largest investment ever, 3i Ventures in Newport Beach has put $2 million into IC Sensors, a Milpitas manufacturer of silicon sensors for the computer industry, to expand the company’s product line and marketing effort.

The venture-capital money brings 3i’s total investments this year to $12.75 million in 22 companies. None of the investments this year has been in a county firm.

As an operating unit of 3i Corp. and the parent company, 3i Group in London, 3i Ventures has the equivalent of a $400-million venture-capital fund. The parent company is the largest private source of venture capital for businesses worldwide.
