Your “Losing the Drug Fight” editorial (Sept. 7) suggesting that the only real solution to winning the anti-drug war is through a reduction in demand is right on point.

That is why Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) is right to suggest that some sort of random drug testing be made part of the standard test people take to obtain their first driver’s license.

When one out of four car fatalities in this country is connected with some drug-stupored driver, it seems reasonable.

But it also sends an unmistakable message to young people--if you fool around with drugs there is a price to pay. Not only will it mess with your mind but it may deny you the privilege of driving.
