Last Beirut Crossing Closed
Lebanese army commander Maj. Gen. Michel Aoun today ordered the indefinite closing of the Museum crossing, the only remaining link between Christian East and Muslim West Beirut, preventing members of Parliament from crossing unless they contact him personally.
A military spokesman said Aoun’s measure was aimed at protecting members of Parliament after Tuesday’s three-hour abduction in East Beirut of Defense Minister Adel Ouseiran, a Shia Muslim, and the continued house arrest of Christian Deputy Farid Sarhal in West Beirut.
