A Fireman’s Italian Meat Loaf Dish Packs a Delicious Punch

Share

The enclosed recipe is the creation of my husband, who is a retired Los Angeles fireman,” Elizabeth Zafarik writes. “Everything he cooks is delicious. This simple recipe turns out to be mildly flavored, but definitely “Italiano.”

ITALIAN MEAT LOAF

2 sweet Italian sausages

2 hot Italian sausages

1 pound ground beef, preferably sirloin

1/2 cup cracker crumbs

1/2 medium onion, finely chopped

1 egg

Salt, pepper

1/2 cup homemade or bottled spaghetti sauce

Remove casings from sausages and discard. Combine sausages and ground beef. Add cracker crumbs, onion, egg and season to taste with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly.

Pack into lightly greased 8x4-inch loaf pan. Top with spaghetti sauce. Bake at 350 degrees 1 hour and 15 minutes. Makes about 8 servings.
