Afghan air raids and shelling across the border have killed 40 people and injured 114 since Soviet troops began leaving Afghanistan on May 15, a Pakistani government spokesman said. He said there were 295 violations of Pakistan’s territory and airspace from May 15 to Aug. 18 and that artillery killed 27 while air raids killed 13. He denied Afghanistan’s charge that Pakistani army personnel help anti-Communist guerrillas fighting the Kabul government. The main guerrilla groups are based in Pakistan. Pakistani authorities have reported that Pakistan fighter planes have intercepted and shot down intruding Afghan planes, but Kabul has denied it.
