A hearty thank you is in order to Randy Lewis for pointing out in his article (“Finally, It’s Not So Cool to Polka Fun at Accordion Music,” Calendar, Aug. 21) that accordions are worthy of some respect and attention.

Being a neophyte accordion player with only four months worth of lessons under my belt, I can honestly say that we accordion players don’t get no respect! Whenever I pull my accordion out of its box, everyone gives me a pained look.

Alas, Steve Lopez, who did the drawing for the article, hasn’t paid enough attention either. The keyboard is on the right hand side and the bass chord buttons are on the left. Mr. Lopez has them reversed.

No problem, really. I’m just glad we’re being noticed.
