GONE TO MARKET
Although the value of Orange County agricultural crops suffered a 4% decline from the level registered in 1986, county farmers in 1987 nonetheless managed an output worth $245,086,000. At the same time, it should be noted tht 4% fewer bearing acres were in use (60,521 compared to 63,136, in 1986). Despite the handicap 1987 was the fourth best year on record for county farmers.
In accordance with established practice, the value of all Orange County agricultural crops is reported on an f.o.b. basis. It is assessed at the first point of delivery and includes the cost of production, harvesting and preparation for market--in effect, the price a farmer receives when he delivers a crop.
