Sri Lanka’s main guerrilla group welcomed a five-day cease-fire and called on India to bring about a permanent end to the five-year ethnic conflict in the island nation. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam said the truce that started last week indicates that India realizes the futility of a military approach to settling the conflict between the Tamils and Sri Lanka’s majority Sinhalese.
