After Rev. Harry Morrison banned the South County Rebels CB Radio Club from the annual St. Anne Festival parade in Union City, parade organizer Rose Misuraca resigned in protest. Morrison ousted the club members because of the club’s Confederate flag logo, but Misuraca said the club played a vital role in the parade. Members, including some blacks, she said, consider the logo a symbol of determination and rebellion--not of racial hatred. Morrison said he and other community leaders scrambled to fill the void and have assembled a 90-minute parade with 35 entrants. Another CB club will take the Rebels’ place, using radio equipment to make sure the parade moves smoothly, Morrison said. Rebel President Ken Miller said Morrison overreacted to the club’s logo.
