American military experts will travel to Hanoi today to begin the most extensive joint searches ever for American MIAs in Vietnam and Laos, a U.S. Embassy spokesman said in Bangkok, Thailand. Two U.S. teams will undertake investigative, survey and excavation work with Vietnamese and Laotian counterparts. The only previous joint excavation for the remains of missing Americans in Vietnam was in 1985, and it focused on a single airplane crash site. The current search in Vietnam will cover a broad area and will last through Oct. 5. The one in Laos will last four days.
