The World : Afghan Rebel Fire Kills 17

Afghan rebels fired a barrage of rockets into the eastern city of Jalalabad, killing 17 people and wounding 34 others, state-run Kabul Radio reported. The rebels, fighting to oust the Soviet-backed government in Kabul, fired eight rockets into the city, which is 70 miles east of the capital. The report also said that three people died and 17 were wounded Friday by a mine that exploded under a bus in the town of Rodat, near Jalalabad, and that three others died from artillery fire in the town of Khost, near the Pakistan border.
