Jaguar Posts Record Monthly Sales in August

Luxury car maker Jaguar PLC said that it had achieved record monthly sales in August with 5,781 cars sold worldwide.

This was nearly 11% higher in volume terms than the previous record month, August, 1987, and represented a showroom value of $255 million.

A Jaguar spokeswoman said the group’s sales in the first eight months climbed 8.4% to 33,631 vehicles from 31,018 in the 1987 period. British sales rose 32% to 10,857, while sales in continental Europe were 19% higher at 5,502 and those in Japan more than doubled to 683 vehicles from 305 in the first eight months of 1987.

U.S. sales, fell, however, to 13,081 cars from 14,148 in the 1987 period.
