Chase Manhattan Corp. said it expects non-performing loans in Argentina to reduce its third-quarter after-tax earnings by about $18 million. In a special filing with the SEC, Chase said it expects to report that as of Sept. 30, about $550 million of its about $970 million of cross-border loans to borrowers in Argentina had been put on non-accrual status, meaning they are non-performing. It said more Argentine loans may also be put on non-accrual status “in light of continuing uncertainties regarding Argentina.”
